hSpt5 heterodimerizes with hSpt4 to form the DRB Sensitivity Inducing Factor (DSIF). DSIF play dual roles in elongation. First, in a conjunction with NELF, dephosphorylated state DSIF blocks RNA polymerase II (RNAPII) from shifting from early elongation to productive elongation. Second, after phosphorylation DSIF continues to associate with elongating RNAPII to facilitate recruitment of factors required for processing of the mRNA. |
