Human Gene CALY (ENST00000252939.9) from GENCODE V44
Description: Homo sapiens calcyon neuron specific vesicular protein (CALY), transcript variant 1, mRNA. (from RefSeq NM_015722) RefSeq Summary (NM_015722): The protein encoded by this gene is a type II single transmembrane protein. It is required for maximal stimulated calcium release after stimulation of purinergic or muscarinic but not beta-adrenergic receptors. The encoded protein interacts with D1 dopamine receptor and may interact with other DA receptor subtypes and/or GPCRs. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. ID:CALY_HUMAN DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Neuron-specific vesicular protein calcyon; FUNCTION: Interacts with clathrin light chain A and stimulates clathrin self-assembly and clathrin-mediated endocytosis. SUBUNIT: Interacts with CLTA. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cytoplasmic vesicle membrane; Single-pass membrane protein. Cell membrane; Single-pass membrane protein. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed in the pyramidal cells of the prefrontal cortex, in hippothalamus and in caudate nucleus. No expression in spleen. Up-regulated in the prefrontal cortex of schizophrenic patients with nearly twice the levels of non- schizophrenics. PTM: Glycosylated (Probable). SIMILARITY: Belongs to the NSG family. CAUTION: Was originally (PubMed:10698743) thought to interact with the D1 dopamine receptor (DRD1) and to play a role in potentiating calcium ion-dependent signaling but this work was later retracted.
The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.
Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
