Human Gene FASTK (ENST00000297532.11) from GENCODE V44
Description: Homo sapiens Fas activated serine/threonine kinase (FASTK), transcript variant 1, mRNA. (from RefSeq NM_006712) RefSeq Summary (NM_006712): The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the serine/threonine protein kinase family. This kinase was shown to be activated rapidly during Fas-mediated apoptosis in Jurkat cells. In response to Fas receptor ligation, it phosphorylates TIA1, an apoptosis-promoting nuclear RNA-binding protein. The encoded protein is a strong inducer of lymphocyte apoptosis. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. Other variants exist, but their full-length natures have not yet been determined. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]. ID:FASTK_HUMAN DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Fas-activated serine/threonine kinase; Short=FAST kinase; EC=2.7.11.8; FUNCTION: Phosphorylates the splicing regulator TIA1, thereby promoting the inclusion of FAS exon 6, which leads to an mRNA encoding a pro-apoptotic form of the receptor. CATALYTIC ACTIVITY: ATP + [Fas-activated serine/threonine protein] = ADP + [Fas-activated serine/threonine phosphoprotein]. SUBUNIT: Interacts with TIA-1 and TIAR. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed in heart, brain, placenta, lung, liver, skeletal muscle, kidney and pancreas. PTM: Autophosphorylated on serine/threonine residues. Activated by dephosphorylation. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the FAST protein kinase family. SIMILARITY: Contains 1 RAP domain.
The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.
Pfam Domains: PF06743 - FAST kinase-like protein, subdomain 1 PF08368 - FAST kinase-like protein, subdomain 2 PF08373 - RAP domain

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.
Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
