Human Gene PFDN2 (ENST00000368010.4) from GENCODE V44
  Description: Homo sapiens prefoldin subunit 2 (PFDN2), mRNA. (from RefSeq NM_012394)
RefSeq Summary (NM_012394): This gene encodes a member of the prefoldin beta subunit family. The encoded protein is one of six subunits of prefoldin, a molecular chaperone complex that binds and stabilizes newly synthesized polypeptides, thereby allowing them to fold correctly. The complex, consisting of two alpha and four beta subunits, forms a double beta barrel assembly with six protruding coiled-coils. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008].

  ID: PFD2_HUMAN
DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Prefoldin subunit 2;
FUNCTION: Binds specifically to cytosolic chaperonin (c-CPN) and transfers target proteins to it. Binds to nascent polypeptide chain and promotes folding in an environment in which there are many competing pathways for nonnative proteins.
SUBUNIT: Binds to c-Myc; interacts with its N-terminal domain (By similarity). Heterohexamer of two PFD-alpha type and four PFD-beta type subunits. Interacts with URI1; the interaction is phosphorylation-dependent and occurs in a growth-dependent manner.
SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Nucleus. Cytoplasm. Mitochondrion.
SIMILARITY: Belongs to the prefoldin subunit beta family.
SEQUENCE CAUTION: Sequence=AAF36151.1; Type=Frameshift; Positions=8, 23, 28, 34;

The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.

-  Orthologous Genes in Other Species
  Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
