Human Gene KLRG1 (ENST00000356986.8) from GENCODE V44
Description: Homo sapiens killer cell lectin like receptor G1 (KLRG1), transcript variant 8, non-coding RNA. (from RefSeq NR_137428) RefSeq Summary (NM_005810): Natural killer (NK) cells are lymphocytes that can mediate lysis of certain tumor cells and virus-infected cells without previous activation. They can also regulate specific humoral and cell-mediated immunity. The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the killer cell lectin-like receptor (KLR) family, which is a group of transmembrane proteins preferentially expressed in NK cells. Studies in mice suggested that the expression of this gene may be regulated by MHC class I molecules. [provided by RefSeq, Jun 2016]. ID:KLRG1_HUMAN DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Killer cell lectin-like receptor subfamily G member 1; AltName: Full=C-type lectin domain family 15 member A; AltName: Full=ITIM-containing receptor MAFA-L; AltName: Full=MAFA-like receptor; AltName: Full=Mast cell function-associated antigen; FUNCTION: Plays an inhibitory role on natural killer (NK) cells and T-cell functions upon binding to their non-MHC ligands. May mediate missing self recognition by binding to a highly conserved site on classical cadherins, enabling it to monitor expression of E-cadherin/CDH1, N-cadherin/CDH2 and R-cadherin/CDH4 on target cells. SUBUNIT: Forms monomer and homodimer; disulfide-linked (By similarity). Interacts (via ITIM motif) with PTPN11 and INPP5D (By similarity). SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Cell membrane; Single-pass type II membrane protein. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Expressed specifically on natural killer (NK) cells and T-cells, mainly CD8 T-cells. INDUCTION: By pathogens and viruses infections. DOMAIN: Contains 1 copy of a cytoplasmic motif that is referred to as the immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitor motif (ITIM). This motif is involved in modulation of cellular responses. Upon phosphorylation of ITIM motif KLRG1 associates with the two phosphatases PTPN11 and INPP5D (By similarity). SIMILARITY: Contains 1 C-type lectin domain.
The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.
Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
