Lemaire et al., Br J Rheumatol 1997*
Evidence: Interferon Gamma treatment of synovial fibroblast like cells led to increased secretion of Cathepsin L. The level of both cathepsin L in culture media was found to almost double at 24 hours of IFN Gamma treatment. The stimulating effect of IFN-Gamma on cathepsin secretion was optimized at a concentration of 10ng/ml with a 2.1 fold maximal increase for cathepsinL.

Furthermore, foreign antigens, but not self-antigens, could increase the activity of
cathepsin L , probably being
mediated by
interferon-gamma , as demonstrated by in vivo and in vitro experiments

The production of
IFN-gamma and IL-2 was
inhibited by
MEP in a concentration dependent manner, but GLP slightly inhibited their production only at 1000 microM

:
IFN-gamma stimulates both
CTSL and CTSS expression after 3 days, but fails to significantly alter CTSK expression
